What happened to Kevin Ogar?

On January 12th, 2014 Kevin Ogar’s life changed forever. He suffered a traumatic injury to his spinal cord as a result of a “freak accident” while competing at an event in Orange County, California. At this time, Kevin has no movement below the waist and will be faced with numerous surgeries and a long road ahead for rehabilitation.

Deep thoughts about Free Saturday by Lindsay Wagnar:  Free Saturday is one of my favorite days at the gym. From an outsiders prospective it may appear to be sheer chaos, but because of the help of CreossFit Flagstaff clients today it was a HUGE SUCCESS.

I love CrossFit for many reasons, the biggest reason being the supportive community. Today we had one of the most complex CrossFit movements in the workout of the day, the snatch. It is the very movement that critically injured Kevin Ogar. You might be thinking, "Why would we snatch on Free Saturday?" Well we know we have the help of each of you coaching the visitors through the work out.

As a coach I often wonder if the cues I  am giving are making it into your memories. Today as I walked through and listened to you coach the visitors through the work out I was so excited! All of your cues were right on point. You were motivating and pushing the guests beyond their percieved limits.

The greatest part is I saw the joy on your faces as the athletes you were working with caught onto the movements. That is the joy I get to experience everyday when I come to work at the gym. As a coach there is no greater joy then to watch someone catch onto a new movement or push themselves harder than usual.
